Places to Visit During your Stay
Barfleur has an attractive and active fishing port, dominated by the Church of St Nicholas and lined with sturdy grey granite houses, each with white shutters to brighten the sombre facades - and some pleasant small beaches nearby in walking distance. The church is interesting, if a little austere, and very attractive. Most of the houses you can now see around the town and port were constructed in the 17th and 18th centuries, when the town was made prosperous by its fishing.

Mont Saint Michel is a monastery built at the top of a rocky islet that overlooks the sea, right at the border between Brittany and Normandy. The statue of Archangel Saint Michael towers 560 feet above the English Channel. Mont Saint Michel was an island until a causeway was built at the end of the 19th century. It was separated from the mainland by one mile of sand at low tide, or by water at high tide.
